Hey all,
Runnin a 26 inch 1-10" 5R on a trued 700 action with Crane Navel Warfare center print chamber (same one US army XM2010 has). Im runnin Rem brass trimmed to 2.608" and FL sized with Fed. #215 primers. H1000 powder and 208gr. AMAX seated to touch lands. OAL of cartridge from base of case to tip of bullet: 3.608" Ok so the thing I did, was load 1 round a piece going up 1/10 of a grain higher till I saw first signs of pressure. First round to give sign of pressure (a slight lip around the firing pin dent), I stopped and called it the max load. I ended up at 78.3 grains of H1000. Funny cuz I got my tightest group with this load. 0.293" CTC for 3 shots at 100 yards. The load is NOT compressed. If you hold the case in the light right, you can see a very faint circle or "dot" where the ejector sat. The bolt opens very easy and there is no effort required to extract the fired case from the chamber. But the load is a bit over max according to Hogdgon's loading data center. And they are seating bullets to 3.340 OAL. So I am wonderin. What do you all think of this way to find max load? Good idea? Bad idea?

I glanced at the Hodgdon data online, and did not see the AMAX listed in 208 gr. It looks like you would be around the max charge for that bullet, but not out of the ball park. I don't exceed the max load in my loading, but some folks do. That bullet/powder combo looks to have great potential in the 300WM though. I may have to dig my 300 out and give it a try.
