I looked in hornadays book and they don't list any data with this combo. But they list it for the 190gr. Should I just use the 190gr load data and work up from there as a starting point?

Re: 208 amax with h1000

I would probably start a little lower than the recommended starting point for the 190gr and work up. Have you looked at any other manuals?

Re: 208 amax with h1000

If you are running a 300 WM then I started at 72 and worked up to 76 and ended up at 74.6 and .015 off lands.

Re: 208 amax with h1000

What cartridge are you loading?
For the 300wm you'll deffinitely be safe to start off with 71 gr of H1000. If you find yourself getting into compressed loads with the H1000, I discovered that H4831sc is giving me great results and similar velocities with about 4 gr less powder. Good luck.

Re: 208 amax with h1000

Yes for the 300wm. I looked in lymans manual and they don't have any info either on the two.

My stick is also a stock 700P in .300WM.

Hodgdon book shows 79c as max for 200gr Nosler Partition and 78gr max for 220gr SMK. I made it up to 79 with the 208AMAX in Win cases, CCI mag primers, before showing pressure, but I was jammed .010" into the lands, so my charge was not compressed. I started at 72 and worked my way up. Upper node in ladder was consistent from 77.5 - 79 (pretty broad really). After shooting ladder, accuracy was 1MOA or less from 77.5 to 79gr. Accuracy was good at 78.9gr and jammed .010" but velocity was a little low at 2875+/- (3 shot .5MOA, 5 shot .75MOA @ 200).

I switched to jumping .010" with same charge and velocity went up to 3050 but accuracy suffered. Next step is to try loads between 77.5 and 78.5 and jump .010 to .020. This should bring the velocity down to 2950-3000 which should be perfect for 1 mile. There will be a sweet spot in there somewhere.

There is a lower node in there and VarmintSlayer found it based on his post above.

Re: 208 amax with h1000

FWIW, I started at 72gr of H1000 jammed and saw no issues... in fact, it shot a .325" group at that charge... then I moved it out to 73.5gr and found another accuracy node and the bullet is still jammed .010...

From what I'm reading here, the accuracy of this bullet is great jumping about .01 - .02... I may chase the 75.gr node and jump the bullet .01 and see where it goes from there.

You can safely load 72gr with no issues, I'm quite sure.

I haven't seen any pressure signs at 73.5 jammed.

Re: 208 amax with h1000

I'm now at 78.5gr H1000 and jumping .030". Velocity is 2850+ and getting 1.3" 5-shot groups at 200.

76gr. H1000 in a RWS case behind a 208gr. A max, no pressure signs, great accuracy.
