Hello all, I have a 20in 6.5 G im trying to get to the 1K mark. It is a R.R. upper and lower with a D&T barrel free floated ofcourse. My ammo seems to be falling just short of 1K. Here are the numbers of the factory ammo and my hand loads. My hand loads are all under 1 moa @ 100yds And 95gr vmax 1/2 moa @ 100yds.

Hornady Factory 123sst 2307-2224 fps great for 500-600 yds. no hits at 900.
Reloaded hornady brass with 123sst (123AMAX was unavalible at the time) 25.5gr of H322 fps is unknown. COAL 2.258 900yd hits 95% of the time. When I switched to my hand loads it was a 1st rd hit. When I tried for the 987 990 1000 1025yd targets I had no luck except on the 987 witch was a larger target apx 15x15 steel target. I pretty sure at 900 I was still supersonic then after that I was in trans sonic flight. And is why it was all but impossible to hit at the longer range.

I have found some 120gr amax that I am going to load up and try any ideas on that?
And at what distance past trans sonic is it possible to gain some level of accuracy?

Found this old thread, what was the final result? My grendel has an 18" barrel and shoots the 123 Amax, ELD, & Sst all equally as well out to 750

I have a 20" Grendel. That factory fps could be part of the problem. I would stick with the 123 Amax or SST and hand load them with either 28.5 gr of IMR 8208 or 32.0 gr of CFE 223. These are the MAX loads I ended up with for both powders. I also seat them long at 2.267. Either of these loads will keep you supersonic out to 1K . Please be careful and work your way up carefully with your gun checking to make sure that long seating is not an issue in your gun if you go this route!

I'm using a 20" Christensen arms barrel with the factory 123 AMAX and was getting consistent hits at 850 on IPSC silhouette. I haven't started reloading for it yet but I have about 20 pounds of CFE 223 and about 500 123 AMAX bullets to find that perfect load. I didn't build his gun to be anything over a 600 yard gun but with second round hits at 850 then 4 out of 5 after that I'm thinking 1000 yards is a new goal for the gun.

24" Bartlein 8 twist here - using 130gr ELD-M's on top of Leverevolution (30.8gr) in lapua brass with cci450 gets 2580fps at muzzle - just 1216fps and 10,7 mils (and the no-wind / no shakes prayer) to hit steel at 1000y - but pretty wimpy - much more consistent to use within 700/750 yards , at least there you can hear when the bullet hits the plate YMMV. and very old thread.....

If you are used to hitting 1k with a 6.5Creed or .260 Rem. the 6.5G is going sound wimpy.

So, not that the OP is going to come back and answer, but what was his twist? He must be an incredible shot as 15x15 was his largest plate at nearly 1k? What was his elevation? Was there any other feedback on where and what the bullets did when they hit?

I've personally had my 24" Satern barrelled 6.5G and my 18" BHW out to 1200. The 18" has been out to1400. But, those were @ 4k+ ASL on hot days. The Satern was 8.5" and the BHW is 8" twists.
