Range Report 22-250 22"bbl stupid?

Im wanting a lighter weight varmint rifle. Not wanting to spend a ton of loot to build one. I have a 22-250 26" now. was goign to pull barrel, cut to 22" and flute it. would this just be stupid and not burning the powder. If anyone has one what velocities are your getting.

Not sure about velocities but my Varmint rig is a Cooper 22-250 with a 22" barrel and it outshoots all my buddies with longer barrels all day.

I have a 22" 22-250 and get great velocities. You just have to use an appropriate powder when reloading. I'm getting 3200fps w/ 80gr Amax over 33.5 grains of Varget.

Unless that barrel is the size of a truck axle cutting off only 4" won't appreciably reduce the weight of the rig. And if it shoots well now perhaps cutting off some barrel would be dinking with it, creating problems you don't have now. And if cutting off the barrel reduces weight appreciably the gun will feel funny, certainly strange. But hell, you might love it. Only problem is if you don't that four inches will be hard to put back on.
