Hello all,

Have a couple barrels incoming to build two 22 Creedmoors, bolt actions on a Defiance Ruckus and Terminus Apollo Ti.

One barrel is 20” and one is 17”. Will be suppressing. Planning to hopeful get 75 ELDms to shoot, but not against smaller, maybe 70 or 75 Berger or 69 SMKs. I have a ton of H4895 and Varget, less of H4350. I’ve heard Reloaded 26 gives good velocities but I have none.

Just curious if your pet loads with shortish barrels on the 22CM abs what velocities you’re seeing?

Possibly something here with short barrels....

I'm thinking the short barrels and RE26 you would get a lot of unburnt powder in can, its slow burn rate.

26 burns like H4350...9” for 98% burn in my 18” 6.5 PRC.

On topic of the 22CM...I’ve used H4350 and Hybrid 100V in my 20” barrel with 80/88s with good results.

Curious to know if the the OP finished the 17" build? If so, what kind of numbers are you seeing through that short of a barrel?

Yup. Built a 20” and a 17”. Stuck with the 17 and sold the 20. Dropped down to 69SMK with Varget for 3340mv. Love it for yotes, fast, accurate, and drops them. I did play with heavier bullets, accuracy was great, but opted for speed.

Sweet rifle!! 3340 is smokin coming out of a 17" barrel! What rate of twist is your barrel? I appreciate the info, I am currently building a 22 creedmoor myself, with an 18" barrel, and am soaking in as much knowledgeable information as possible.

8” twist seems to be the sweet spot. H4350 is a great powder for 75 plus with a shorter barrel. Some of those slower powders may not be the best with a short tube

How do the 69 smks perform on coyotes? My 8 twist 22 250 likes em. Need to chrono but the book says they should be almost 3500 with a real stout dose of superformance, so I figured my 22 inch barrel should be around 3400 with em which is fine by me

The 50 and 55g v max work great on coyotes. They are not hard to get 3600 and 3800 respectively. Not from a 17" barrel. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: I loaded heavier stuff for one of my 22-250s but the range I shoot most coyotes almost all inside 600y with very few past 400y and most within 200y. I mostly I went back to 40-60g for varmints and save the heavy bullets for shooting past 600y.

Great for me. Blows them up. Anywhere good they’re dead on the spot. Hit one back, it laid down in about 15yds and I put it down. Damage to rear quarter was gnarly.

I would be fine with the 53s cause that's what I shoot outta my 223, but the 250 likes the 69 smk, really wanted to shoot 75eldm but they didn't shoot as well so

69 SMK has a tougher / thicker jacket than the TMK. What I did to make them violently upset, was bought a $12 needle drill set on Amazon and found the bit that shaved just a smidge off the ID of the hollowpoint to thin it up. This in theory, should aid in faster bullet upset and better transfer of energy to the target. I saw what it did to a whitetail and it wasn't pretty. ..I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night, but this little trick has worked well for my son. MV @ 3510fps

Did you get that 18" built? How's it shooting?

I’m running an 18” factory tikka 223rem 8 twist reamed out. Running 80gr elds at 2950fps forming Hornady 6creed brass that I resized. Although I took a few pieces of formed brass and it looks like it’s going to run 80gr at 3070fps with h-1000 at around ~ 44gr. Might try hybrid 100v also I think I could run the 80s near 3200fps with this Bbl. Also have 500 pieces of Peterson brass headed my way. And my buddy had a lightweight 16” built that were hoping to run 69gr TMKs out of at 3300fps.

Yesterday went out to 1040 yards about 30min before dark, it was still windy 10-12 with some mirage and I fired 2 shots to get on the 24x24” plate. Made adjustments and waited until right at dark and the wind had died down to 3-5mph from 3clock. Dialed 27moa UP and 4.5R and sent 3 down range. Not bad from an 8lb suppressed rifle in the standing position with a 2oz rear bag. This is from an 18” barrel running 80gr elds at 2950fps with 42.5gr of h-1000. It just hit 100 rounds so it has speed up some.
