    Out there somewhere
I am ordering a 22Creedmore barrel this week for my next build, I am wondering what kind of bullet weight and twist are you guys are using? Also any comments about loads or just general thoughts of any kind? Also Loading dies, brand, bushing size etc

I just got my 26” in from pva and it’s a 7 twist. With such an aggressive twist I am going to go with heavy bullets, an 85 rdf probably, so that I can 1) take advantage of the high bc and 2) so that it’s not going even faster and rotating the lighter bullets even more and possibly rupturing jackets.

Share the purpose of the rifle.

If I built one I'd try to run the 88 ELD-M or the new 85.5 Berger with a 7.5 twist barrel. I would probably try to run them at about 3,400 FPS depending on barrel length you want. I think this combo of twist and velocity would help insure against bullets coming apart from excessive RPM.

I don't believe a twist rate faster than 7.5 is necessary for these projectiles. I have fired 88 ELD-M in a 1:8 twist barrel at 2,900 FPS at 3,000 ft altitude and they were stable all the way to 800 yards.

I dont think faster than an 8 is necessary from my research post purchase but pva had the sale and I already had a 223 and I didn’t want a 22-250 so 22 creed I went. Wish it wasn’t a 7 myself, I’m scared if one does come apart it will be once I’m comfortable putting my can on, Murphy’s law and all.

This is interesting I have a 7.5 twist mullerworks blank. I figured it would be not a fast enough twist for a 88 eld. Do you guys think a 7.5 twist would work for a 88 eld in 223 Remington?

I always get the what purpose question and I don't have a good answer other than, I don't have one making me happy, I can say it isn't for self defense, I have plenty of those.

Did you alter existing dies or order 22 Creed specific, and what brand of barrel? I'm thinking Criterion, because I have had good luck with them

Pva uses rock creek blanks I believe.

And I figure this barrel is only going to last 1k rounds maybe so I went cheap with the bottom end hornady custom grade, it comes with both the hunting seating stem and the amax seating stem which I nice. I added on the micrometer seater top. If I like it then I may upgrade dies later on.

Hornady is making 22 Creed specific dies?

I would not go faster than an 8 twist. Plenty fast enough to stabilize 88 ELD's or 90 VLD's.

    Consider a 3200fps load,

    8tw: 288,000 RPM
    7.5tw: 307,200 RPM
    7tw: 329,143 RPM
    6.5tw: 354,461 RPM

When you get to 6.5mm or smaller with an overbore velocity pig you really need to take this into account before you get started. You're very liable to start blowing bullets up around the 300k mark, especially as throat condition deteriorates. On one hand the super heavy for caliber bullets need the twist to be stable, on the other hand the twist will kill the bullet. Where those two intersect is where you need to let off the gas pedal.

I have a 6.5 twist by SAC for 95 SMKs with lots of freebore and a 7 or 7.5 (can’t remember what TS Customs did) for 80s or 85.5 hybrids, Alpha SRP brass turned to 0.0145”, Whidden bushing dies, K&M mandrel for 0.0015” neck tension. Both are stupid awesome!!

If you get a 7 twist, I'd suggest getting a looser bore. I have a .218" 4-groove Krieger and I'm blowing things up as low as 3150fps. I've had some luck wth a 6-groove 8 twist SS Wilson with 88 ELDs at 3130fps but I'm more than 5000' elevation so stability's less critical.

This is getting better and better, I'm leaning towards an eight twist and if I can run 80-85 grain bullets I should be good. Most of my life I only had one gun, a 220 swift, it took down uncountable whitetails, all neck or head shots, and a gazillion critters with 45gr bullets so I'm not worried about having too small bullets. What size bushing?

This video is lengthy but he explains the barrel twist question for the 22 Creedmoor.

I have an 8 twist in the works for my build. The plan is to stick with the 80-88 gr bullets.
