I have a GAP AR10 in .260 Rem.and am shooting factory BH with 139 gr. scenars or Corbon 123 gr.'s.
What, if anything, will I be giving up if I have the barrel shortened from 24" to 22"?
The purpose of shortening the barrel is part of an effort to make the rifle lighter and more maneuverable for tactical competitions out to 1000 yd.s.
Could it even be 20"?
I'd appreciate hearing from those that are running 22" barrels, or less, on the AR10 platform in .260 Rem.
Thank you.

Re: 22" or 24" barrel for AR10 in .260 Rem.?

I shoot an AR15 6.5 Grendel out past 1000, and it has a 22 inch barrel. I use 108 gr Lapuas and they are still flying supersonic at about 1150 yds. You won't have a problem with your 260 going from a 24 to 22 inch barrel, you might lose 50 - 75 fps at the muzzle.

I shoot a DPMS style 260 rem AR, with a 20" 1:7.5 barrel.
I get 2675 - 2700 ft/sec with the 140 A-max (handload), and that should be supersonic to around 1300 yards.
Amazing for an Autoloader IMO.
