Been kicking around the idea of putting together a .22 set up as a scout rifle.

Just curious if anybody has done this and would be kind enough to share some pics.

I never do anything easy so I will need to figure out the best way to mount a scope. It will be based on either a 10/22 or a Savage but I have not decided which yet.

Thanks A.S.

The 10/22 in stock trim is a pretty good example no?

Scope or not, I think it's pretty much right on.

Shotgun News did an article of a gentleman who chopped up a garand stock and mounted surplus garand sights to a 10-22. As a 20/20 rifle it looked just like the real thing (20 feet away, 20 miles an hour)

Well in stock trim its certainly compact and lightweight but I'm refering to a forward scout mount setup.

I have a 10/22 that needs a facelift so I was thinking of puting usable iron sights on it as well as an extended rail and qd scout optic.

Then I got to thinking maybe should just start fresh with a bolt gun for this project.

Just looking for ideas.

Don't have a rifle but I have a cunning plan.

I've ordered a CZ Scout.

I plan to cut the stock off behind the pistol grip and drill it for a folding wire stock. Then I'll drill out the forend under the barrel to reduce weight and create ammo storage fro the forend tip. The gun will be fitted with peep sights and a Dokter or Burris mini-red dot on the front receiver ring on a picatinny base. The barrel will be threaded for a suppressor. If my calculations are correct I'll end up with a rifle that weighs 4lbs with night-hunting capability that points quick.

Id have to do some checking on who makes it but you can get a quad rail that attaches over the end of the stock and part of the barrel that would be ideal for mounting scout scope. Maybe centerfire systems sells them? It is for a 10/22

Re: .22 Scout rifle builds anybody have one?

I had a Ruger 77/22 set up as a scout to go along with the M77/308 I had. Both used the 1/4 Rib from a Ruger#1 for mounting. Were I to do it today I would likely go with a Ching Ring, now marketed by XPress, to mount the scope. On the other hand, I went to conventionally mounted 2.5-8's on both rifles.

FWIW

I misunderstood what you were looking for, sorry about that.

I'd like to see what you come up with in the end.
