Wishing I was back in MT
Does anyone know of a match grade barrel maker that offers a .223 AI for the AR? I have searched high and low. The closest I have come was Insight and am waiting for a call back. If I can't find one, I am thinking of going with a BHW 20" match grade bull 1-8" and having it reamed. What do you guys think of BHW barrels?

The .223AI that I have feeds great. It was kind of a test gun to see what performance we could get from them. And thy do work well. Close to 4000 rounds through it. Coyotes and prairie dogs do not like it much.

You cannot take an AR barrel and just ream it to the AI. To do it right the barrel needs set back a thread. This would require removing the extention and then retiming it (with the gas port) once the set back is done.

You are better off having one made from a blank and yes the 223 AI feeds great out of an AR platform. With a 40 vmax with a 24" barrel speeds around 4000 fps are obtainable.

Toygunner, thanks for the info. What twist are you running? I would like to run the 60 or 64 grn Bergers and think I can run a 1-10" and be ok. I shoot a 52 grn now and would like to achieve the same or close velocities with the heavier bullets out of the AI.
