Re: .223 barrel short enough for subsonic ??

uhhhhhhhhhh subsonic 223 ammo will not cycle the action in an AR, so why not use a bolt gun if you are going to have to manually cycle it any how.

Now if you want a subsonice round in an AR platform look into 300 whisper, it will cycle the action and be subsonic with heavy bullets and a rifle length barrel.

Re: .223 barrel short enough for subsonic ??

I love the photo above... I'm not looking for subsonic .223 I was worried the ammo would be Subsonic like it is on some of my 22 pistols because of the length of the barrel

Re: .223 barrel short enough for subsonic ??

No, standard 223 ammo will not be subsonic ..... you are looking at dropping 1200 plus FPS to get a 223 bullet to be subsonic, I dont think that you can get a barrel short enough for that to happen.

No... I think standard 22 ammo stays subsonic in short barrels so I wondered if .223 would be the same... I only asked because I'm at work bored

Standard 22 ammo stays subsonic in a short barrel because it doesnt get a full powder burn. But even standard velocity ammo in a 16 inch barrel isnt traveling that much faster than the sound barrier thats why you take away a complete powder burn in a short barrel and it stays subsonic.

Centerfire 223 ammo is moving at twice the sound barrier out of a 16 inch barrel ....

I'm a machinist and I run aerospace that takes hours to run so lots of time to think of making suppressors and form ones ... Sorry for the dumb question
