Hi I have a Weatherby Vanguard and am looking at a Krieger Barrel for it. Its mostly going to be a hunting rifle and sometimes for shooting paper at the range.
Currently have a 24" 1;12 twist barrel but am looking at a 24" barrel in a 1;9 or 1;8 twist.
Does anyone have a 9 or 8 twist and shooting 55gr bullets with it accurately.
I want it for shooting heavier longer bullets but still want to shoot the 55gr for rabbits and small game for meat.
Also what barrel contour would best suit a carry rifle.

The only reason to ever go looser than an 8.0 twist is to go full-boat and slacken to 12" or 14" twist for short/fast and/or BR bullets.

8's shoot 55 grain fine for hunting accuracy if you load, but don't expect South Trashkanistan 55 ball bullets to shoot 3/4 Minute. If you go with a MATCH 55 like a Lapua, Hornady, or Sierra Blitzking, you'll be great.

Depending on where you live and shoot, an 8-twist in anything longer than 20" will easily shoot the 80-class non-VLD bullets, should you choose to do so.

The bigger concern will be how to CHAMBER the barrel.

For carry contour, you need to do some calculating of weight, and pondering of how you feel about that. That's not a question the internet can answer.
