Hey guys I am looking for a round for the AR with a little more punch.
I have a 1 in 7 twist 16" barrel.
What do you guys think of SMK 69gr HPBT? Good, bad, indifferent?

Re: .224 SMK 69gr HPBT

Millions have been loaded. Great all around bullet. 600yd is about it's limit.500 in it is a tack driver, run them fast. I run mine 2950fps.
YMMV, Rob

Re: .224 SMK 69gr HPBT

69's are my go to round for most everything, 3 gun, yote hunting (not the best stopping round but I know where it hits), Steel to 500 as stated and 600 is about it. I'm only running mine 2750 and happy with performance. Kick less than 77's.

1:9 is ideal for the 69gr SMK

Re: .224 SMK 69gr HPBT

I shoot 69 MSK in my AR15. Realistically, it suffers little in comparison with some of its larger brothers (75 MSK, 77 SMK,...) inside 600 yards. Outside of 600 yards, its a different story.

Re: .224 SMK 69gr HPBT

As said above 1 in 9" GTG. for the 69 SMK.
68 Hornaday also, You can try the 70gr. Berger but they sometimes don't like the jump in an AR. I've had good and bad with them.
