Wanting to build a trainer rifle/ backup rifle for matches and the 224 Valkyrie seemed like a good match but one big question how’s the brass life? I have seen videos and read things that claim the brass life was only 2-3 firings and that’s no good for me but at the same time that may have been in a gas gun. So what’s everyone’s experience with the 224 Valkyrie in a bolt gun?

I know that the same stories were applied to the .22 Nosler.
I built a bolt gun and am running the Dogtown brass from Midway, which is nothing more than Nosler brass with the Midway headstamp. Brass seems to hold up just fine, but I don't have a ton of firings on it.

what about the brass makes you think it would last any less than other brass does at similar pressure threshholds? how long does your 223 brass last in a gas gun?
The problem I heard a lot of is the primer pockets getting worn out and to be honest I’ve gotten 6-8 firings out of 223 brass in gas gun no problems. But that’s not what this was about.

Yea I heard of some issues with that cartridge as well and most of everyone was switching to 6mm Hagar brass to deal with that. But it’s good to know in your bolt gun you’re not having issues just want to be sure on Valkyrie before I go dumping money into a barrel.
