.224V with 88 ELD/90 Berger factory loads?

...in the initial release of 224V barrels many spoke very highly of Craddock's barrels, now that time has passed and many of the 224V anomalies have been ironed out, Craddock still receives very high marks AND he has them in stock ready to ship. Also with this passage of time, many of the other barrel producers are turning out quality barrels in 224V, comes down to "who" you like, what's available in the time frame you want to receive it and how much you want to pay...

on this forum, "Padom" has posted really good reports of his experience with Rainier barrels, the search feature can be your friend..

I’ve got a 22” WOA 1:6.5t that shoots the federal 90’s Sub moa. My two Rainier Arms didn’t shoot the 90’s well, but the one I still have shoots the FGMM 80.5’s very well.

I have a criterion 22" 1:6.5 and it shoots 88 eldms great (sub moa out to 1000 if you do your part.) These are hand loads, not factory but it gives you a little bit to go on.

As already stated, JP, Craddock, WOA and Rainier. I would also add Keystone Accuracy from what I've read. Too bad you went LWRC because my MRP shoots the 88gr Hornady out to 800 well. At least as well as I can shoot. Lol. Tried them at 1000 but I'm pretty sure I'm the limiting factor as it was my first time slinging anything that far.

I ended up with a Criterion. I wanted 18” and to see if it’ll shoot.

Shot my 20” LWRC today with the 90gr Federal and with the 75 TMK.

TMK did 1” twice. or better. Probably 3/4”. Third group opened up baaaad. 1.75”.

The 90 grain Federals shot a 12” group.

I have a 24" Rainier barrel which I believe is a Schilen barrel. I got it very early in the Valkyrie hysteria. The twist rate is 7.5 and it will not stabilize any bullet greater than an 85.5 grain. That being said, it does shoot anything less very well. When I eventually replace the barrel I will get a 6.5 twist so I can shoot the heavy's.

Depending on velocity, 6.5 may cause some “heavies“ to blow up. Out of my 6.5 twist 224 predator, about 1 in 10 88 gr eld-m bullets fail to make it to a 100 yard target when pushed much above 2800 FPS.

I have a Craddock Criterion 20” 7T and it does not shoot the FGMM 90’s or Hornady 88’s well at all. It does shoot the FGMM/Berger 80.5 great and even those cheap Fed 75tmj decent (around 1”)

Rainier isn’t using Shilen barrels in the Ultramatch line, but it is a good barrel.

Id suggest running the ballistics before going to the heavies. Unless you need the energy on target, the 80gr class bullets beat out the heavies in most applications out to 1100yds or so.
