If I understand what I have read about the .22LR having similar drop characteristics of the .308, my question is;

Which .22LR has these characteristics as compared to which .308 bullet? There must be one .22LR that is comparable and this idea and what it is based on, but I can't see where all .22LR would have the same characteristics as they vary in grain weight and speed.

So which .22LR round fits the bill?

Re: .22LR / .308

Ballistics Comparisons.

The standard round for Long Range is the .308 with a 175 grain SMK, .490BC bullet at 2600 FPSMV.

Using CCI Green Tag .22 ammo for comparison, with a 40 grain, .125BC
bullet at 1070FPSMV.

A 250 yard .22 shot closely replicates a 1,000y, 59F sea level shot from
a .308. (approx 40MOA up from zero[100y zero for .308, 25y zero for .22], windage corrections in MOA are also very similar, a 10 mph wind at 250yards needs about the same MOA correction as a 1,000 yard .308 also with a 10 mph wind, 10MOA).

Re: .22LR / .308

so 250 yards is the ticket for just about any ~1050 match 40 gr lead nose round?

Re: .22LR / .308

So what would a 550 yard shot from a .22LR replicate for a .308?

For my 1050 WolfMT it would have similar drop to shooting my 308 168's at 2725fps at 1850ish yds.....

Re: .22LR / .308

That is something i'll have to try cause shooting a 16" 10/22 at 550 yards was a blast! I can imagine how interesting itd be to shoot my .308 past 1800 yards.

Re: .22LR / .308

So a person needs to stay with subsonic ammo in the 1050 to 1070 fps range, along with a 40 grain .22LR bullet for this comparison to work with the .308 round,,, as well as perhaps shooting at 250 yards with the .22LR to get the .308's 1000 yard equivalent.

Thanks! Interesting stuff for sure!

Re: .22LR / .308

When I looked at these numbers a while back I came up with a 1/6 scale for trajectory and sight picture when replicating .308 trajectory with a .22lr.

Good chart! Is the .22LR on this chart based on the Subsonic round? The -27.5 drop at 200 yards leads me to believe it is.

Thanks!

47moa for 168's at 1K??

Looking at your chart it seems to have some big jumps (between 400-450,700-750, etc) that aren't there in my dope.....

Actually, a graph of the 168 trajectory seems pretty smooth to me:

.22lr vs. 168 gr .308 trajectory graph

How does your dope differ?

Re: .22LR / .308

47MOA is that for meters??

What bullit and at what velocity for the 47MOA?
Have you boxed your scope?

No-bodies data matches the 47MOA.

Please help with specifics.
