I'm having Russell at scout supply build me a 300 win mag to go with the 308 I had him build me. I had originally just planned on shooting 190gr bullets in this rifle so I had him put a 26" 1/11.25 rock creek on it. I haven't gotten it yet, he is just now finishing up the 308 with a 1/10 20"tube. I have been eyeballing the 230 berger otm bullets. Has anyone shot these in a 1/11.25? Will they Stabilize or do you have to have a 1/10?

A 230 grain .30 cal bullet? Don't know if it'll stabilize in a 1:11.25 or not... but the things gotta look like a copper arrow without the fletching!

I'd be inclined to email Berger and ask 'em. They were very helpful when I was trying to find the heaviest bullet I could run in my 12 twist .223 Tikka 595... (The Berger 64 grain flat base match is the limit, and shoots great...)

You will need the 1-10. You would have been better off with the 11.25 on the 308 and the 10 on the 300. Recommended twist for 220-230 gr is 1-10 and 240gr are 1-9 to 1-8 twist so the 230 gr is already in the border with a 1-10. Not sure if its been machined yet, if not the 190's are still a good round.

Look at the following link about 3/4 down the page. A picture is worth 1000 words of you want to know what you'd be in for with 230s as far as reloading. Looks like those pills are just about ready to fall out of the case (LOL).
