243 115 D-Tac Hbn or naked

Re: 243 115 D-Tac Hbn or naked

To answer your question first, I don't think it's better, as a general statement. Obviously the use of Hbn can't be summed up in 1 rifle or 1 cartridge. Here are a few things I observed.

Pros,

few more rounds before accuracy falls off
smooths out 1st round cold/clean cold bore shot if you have an issue with a particular barrel
makes neck tension on the brass less of an issue (like lubing inside necks)
reduces some pressure, allowing you to push the load a bit more

Cons from my experience,

cost more (tried and wouldn't do it myself = hassle)
'another' what if in the equation
didn't change the life span of my barrels
to maximize the use of hbn prelube the barrel after cleaning (changed my DOPE for 20-30 rounds without)

After my own 'testing' I won't be doing it anytime soon again. Reloading for me is a means to an end, rewarding but...I like to shoot MORE than reload,

There might be better uses for Hbn, shooting more bench style or subsonic uses.

Re: 243 115 D-Tac Hbn or naked

I used to use Moly 115s in my .243 but when Tubb stopped making them I went to the BN and just had to adjust my load .3grns lower and they are as accurate as my moly load. Just my rifle though so can't say if it will work for you.

Never had any trouble with BN. I never prelubed the barrel and the rifle stayed on for the matches I have shot it in. Very accurate as well but having not shot naked bullets can't say it has anything to do with the BN. I buy them already coated so the cost is only about $5 more than naked.
