Granted the 115 DTAC is head and shoulders above the 105 AMAX at extended ranges, the 105 will make the trip accurately. Poked a yote at 1103 yards verified by a Swaro LRF. for those who doubt the ability of the 6mm rounds, let's shoot

Re: 243 beyond 1100

1100+ yard hit on a coyote? Thats a hell of a shot. Good shooting.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

Nothing wrong with that. Outcomes still the same! Nice follow-up shot.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

I read an article about a guy shooting up to a mile with a 223 and 80 VLDs just to prove the stability of a subsonic bullet

Re: 243 beyond 1100

I'm currently working up loads for my Remmy .243 with the A-Max, but I plan to shoot no more than 500-600 yards (just don't have much room here)
What powder were you using to achieve this??

Thanks
Wes

Re: 243 beyond 1100

4350 is excellent, as well as H4831SC. if you have a fast twist bbl 26" or longer, run rl25 and 115 DTACs

Re: 243 beyond 1100

I'm load testing with IMR-4350 and 105 A-Max's and a GM210M primer (Fed. Match)
Rifle is a rem 700 ADL with the Factory barrel. I plan to shoot and learn it until it is shot out then rebarrel it.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

I use H1000 in my 6mmCM. My fire form load (Hornady 243 brass)with the 115 DTAC is moving at 3035fps...28" bbl.

Once the cases are fire formed I can stuff some more powder in there and can push naked 115's at 3150-3200fps...yes...it's laser.

Respectfully,

--KJ

Re: 243 beyond 1100

42.2grns of H4350 is my BN 115 DTAC load as well in the .243. Gives me about 2990fps from a 27" barrel. Super accurate as well.

what gun or barrel???? thats awesome!!

Re: 243 beyond 1100

Mine is a GAP7000 action built by GAP with a 27" Schneider 7.5 twist. I won the best group at the Idaho State Sniper Challenge back in 2008 with it. The group was .250 outer edge to outer edge so about .007" or so. It's the most accurate rifle I own.

80's if this is the one you're talking about.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

It was 80's. My rifle is a cheapO. salvage action with 24" shilen 1:8 SS select match, I'll reuse the action but the next tube will be 27+ long and MTU contour

Sounds like you've got a good load worked up for those DTACS!!

I'm in the same boat with you guys. I've got a .243 factory Varmint that I'm about to send for a new barrel.
I'd buy up some bullets and give it a try if I thought the twist rate and 2.800" mag length were good for the 105's.
I've got glass and a good stock for it already.

Remington specs say they are a 9 1/8" twist.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

so far mine has done well with the 105 A-Max's but I'm still developing a load for em (not very easy to get to a range here)
I believe that is correct as to what twist the remington factory bbl is IIRC

Re: 243 beyond 1100

Are you guys jumping or jamming the DTAC's and are you fitting in unmodified AI mags?
Thanks

Re: 243 beyond 1100

Mine are in unmodified AI mags and jumping. Not sure how far anymore. I set them to jump about .010" when the rifle was new and that was at about 2.865" OAL. I have kept it at that distance as any longer would make the rounds possibly rub the front of the mag and not feed as well. It hasn't effected accuracy and I have about 1800 rounds through it now.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

I shoot a 6Dasher 1-8 twist It loves the 105A's and berger 108s havn't got to shoot out past 1K yet with any of them last summer. But will really push it next summer. Anybody here trying 80A's in a 22-6mm with any luck I've got a 1-8 twist krieger here waiting to be built into one.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

Wow that's impressive for a .243. Never knew they had those kinds of ballistics at range. Maybe I'll look into one for my next build.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

Anyone have a good starting point for H4831sc with a 115 D-Tac? Looking for a good load that isn't temp sensitive. Mine likes the R-25 but won't shoot H-1000 for anything.
Thanks

Re: 243 beyond 1100

I run 115 DTACs with 47.5gr H1000 at 2.850" in a 27" Benchmark barrel, which gets me 3050fps. Don't have a ton of experience past 1000 but was able to hit a 9" plate at 1020 as long as I did my job behind the gun.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

I'm planning on replacing my 27" 223 wssm Kreiger barrel and converting to a 243 wssm. 26" 8 twist more than likely. I want to shoot the 105 A-Max's at long distance groundhogs and prairie dogs.
Anyway, due to space limitations in my motorhome, I would like to try a powder I have on hand. Anyone tried RL-17, 19, or 22 or W-760 with the 105s.

There is no comparion in my book. My only complaint I have in my new 6mm experiments is the hard to call misses and hits sometimes. Bigger bullets are easier to see. It's not bad, just not quite as easy. Recoil makes up for it though.

Re: 243 beyond 1100

7.5

Re: 243 beyond 1100

I think I found the feasible limit of .243 today. I had no problem banging a 12"x12" plate at 1300 yard today but when I moved to my 1400 yard plate it all went to hell. 40' short, then 10' high. I just couldn't hit it with a 107 SMK to save my life.

get a hold of some 115 grain DTAC's and push them hard! I remember getting some incredible groups with a Krieger 30" truck axle and lots of VihtaVuori N-170 out of a .243. If I had to do it again, I'd be very tempted to jump to the long action 6mm Remington and really let things fly!
