I just recently got into reloading about 6 months ago. During that time all I have loaded for is my .243 Win.

Over that time I have put together a fairly accurate load.
105amax
40gn of IMR-4350
Federal 210M
Seated at 2.800" OAL .020 off the lands.
Lapua Brass

I'm looking to get away from IMR-4350 because of its temperature sensitivity.

What powder(s) would be best for this load?
H4350?
H4831sc?
H1000? with a magnum primer?
Retumbo? with a magnum primer?

Another powder not listed?

Or stay with the IMR-4350 because my load wont have any pressure spikes come summertime(90 degree plus temps here in Oklahoma)? I understand that IMR-4350 is temperature sensitive, but since I worked up this load in the winter months would I have a pressure issue in higher temps or is it not that temp sensitive?

Here is my latest target with my current load, the two impacts in the upper right were sighters. I had just put on a Vortex Viper PST. The impacts in the center is a five shot group at 100 yards.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

It is possible that you may run into pressure issues being you made the load in the winter. What I would do is switch to an extreme powder like H4350 or even H1000. You will get better velocity and a straight .243 with the H4350 but don't be afraid of using the H 1000. I run 45.5 grains of H1000 in my 243 also using Lapua brass and can get about 3000 FPS. At my current seating depth, that is about as much powder as you can squeeze into the case without it being a compressed load.

I don't know about Niles, but I use a magnum primer and I think I started out at 42 grains and worked up from there. I never really ran into any pressure but rather ran out of room for powder with my current seating depth.

With 105 Hornady hpbt I loaded it all at 43 gr of h4350 and just adjusted my seating depth. 2.860 in my 27" rem 700 works for me. Just noticed you said Amax and not hpbt. My bad.

Federal Large Rifle Primers, Winchester Brass.

I havent been until several guys here started telling me to try them, I am showing about a 50fps jump with mag's but I have yet to test it at distance to make sure I am still in the node.

As for starting charge I would have started at or near whatever hodgdon's min. load was and loaded 2 cartridges every .5 grain to a half grain above max, all on brand new lapua brass, noting case measurements. Shoot two shot groups while crono testing for speed and measuring for pressure. Like has been said the case fills up, going much higher was not possible with new lapua brass. No signs of high pressure seen or measured on the brass during work up. 46 grains shot well as did 45.5 (just not as good) so I retested this time with 3 cartridges each with .1g steps between 45.5 and 46 and tested at 400y, 45.9 was the best shooting out of those. Then I went back and played with the seating depth.

All of this was using standard primers. I plan to retest in the spring with mag's at distance.
