I have had a kelbly atlas tac that has been sitting around for over a year and I'd like to turn it into a dedicated deer rig. Recently the 25 Creedmoor caught my interest and I've been researching it, but everyone is shooting the heavies. I'd like to shoot the 110 sierra tmk or the 115 berger if I went that route.

That being said, the more I think about it, would I be gaining/ losing anything if I went with a 6CM with 100-108gr over a 25cm with 110-115 grain bullets?

Can't imagine the velocity and BC would be much different and I'd never take shots on game over 400 yards. Just curious everyone's thoughts.

    Thanks fellas

Splitting hairs I have both. I’m on my 4th 25 creed barrel mostly 134 Eldms and 135 ‘s. My 6 is all 109 bergers. The 6 creedmoor seems a bit more forgiving to reload and definitely less recoil. My 25’s get a bit better barrel life. The 25 is going to get more popular now that it’s Sami and factory loads become available, more brass choices etc. if it was just deer and I didn’t shoot a bunch I would probably go with the 6 but it’s seriously so close it doesn’t matter. 6mm stuff does seem easier to come by than the 25, I’m talking barrels and bullets.

I’d go 6 creed. Been using 1 of 4 for hunting for the past 5 years. Zero regrets, critters die quickly, get exits and can watch impacts through scope.
x2. splitting hairs imo inside 500, go with the lower recoil. especially if you want to shoot 110-120 weight 25 cm bullets, you're losing some of the terminal performance benefits by not shooting heavy for caliber bullets in 25cm. 108 ELDM is a great hunting bullet too. if you are shooting long range cross canyon out west 7-800 plus (which most shouldn't be doing anyways) I can see the case for 25 cm where the 133 ELDM and 128 eldx ballistic benefits increase the further you're shooting, but other than that you're splitting hairs and should go with the more shootable lighter recoiling cartridge imo. if it matters too 6cm factory 108 eldm is pretty easy to find on shelves.

    This is spot on.

I went through this same mental battle recently for a dedicated critter rig. Went with 6CM because of the flatter 0-300 trajectory and lower recoil. An added benefit was that I already had dies for it from another 6CM barrel, but that wasn't a deciding factor.

You're also talking only .014 diameter and ~25 grains of bullet weight difference too. Put the correct bullet where it needs to be and you'll see no appreciable difference in killing.

Nice! What barrel length you running?
It's a prefit I had built for my Solus action. It's a 20" Proof CF that I had Eric Anderson @ Blue Mountain Precision machine.

I like 6mms for target shooting...but these are really close for deer hunting.
There may be a small advantage to the 25 caliber for hunting.
Heavier bullets like the 133 gr, something atleast over 120 grs would provide better penetration if needed. Plus a slightly larger wound channel.
It's 1.5 times the diameter for a typical hunting bullet to expand, inside its recommended expansion range, so the 25 cal does have a greater tissue damage potential.
But a bullet in the right place usually does the trick.

I did hunt with a 25-06 for deer many yrs ago, it performed poorly because of bullet selection, and after one season I went to the 7 mag, for deer and elk.
Then went to the 338 mag for everything large game, as I hunt them, so most are 100 yds or closer.
Shot the barrel out of the 25-06 as a varmint gun...works great on rockchuck and coyotes, probably never go back to 25 cal again, got a couple thousand pcs of brass...to turn into something else.

Yep they all recoil,... but there are some overly sensitive "men" on this site that seem to whine over every ounce of recoil energy hitting their tiny sensitive shoulders. Between these two calibers it shouldn't matter...the 6 CM and the 25 CM ...really?
It could be mentioned but should not be a reason for making your choice for hunting deer, which ain't competitive target shooting...one and done, most deer hunting days.

...first shot exception to felt recoil, my 50BMG with 240 to 265 grs of powder, ...after the blast concussion, trying to find your glasses, the stinging grit from the muzzle blast blowing tiny rocks/sand on ground into your face, and a headache beginning to form...ya hardly notice the recoil ...on the first shot.
Only 69 more rounds of 50BMG to go... now you're starting to feel the recoil.
