Ive been testing some alternate powders for my 260 to try and get a touch more velocity and finding an accurate load. Here are my results using 2000MR and RL-17. PLEASE NOTE: MY BARREL ALLOWS ME TO RUN HOTTER LOADS WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE SO WORK YOUR WAY UP TO THIS. MOST OF THESE ARE OVER BOOK MAX!!!!

Gun: Savage Model 10
Barrel: 26" Shillen Ultra Match
Bullet: 143 ELD-X

2000MR:
41 - 2827
41.5 - 2851
42 - 2880
42.5 - 2909
43 - 2926
43.5 - 2959 - Minor Heavy Bolt Lift
44 - 2990 - Heavy Bolt Lift

RL-17
41 - 2830
41.5 - 2855
42 - 2883
42.5 - 2907
43 - 2950
43.5 - 2973
44 - 2991 - Ejector Marks but Easy Bolt Lift
44.5 - 3020 - Minor Heavy Bolt Lift
45 - 3046 - Heavy Bolt Lift

I am now testing 5 shot groups between 42.8 - 43.8 of RL-17 and 42.3 - 43.3 of 2000MR.

Did a similar workup with 260 and 2000mr with 130 berger and ended up topped out at 44.2 and 2995 average just seeing pressure, 44.0 at 2971 was more ideal. I wasn’t impressed with Es/Sd I normally get, sd was 13-18 across the ladder I ran. Accuracy was impressive. This is a 21” barrel on my ax with lapua brass. Think I’ll try a different powder to try and reduce sd and keep speed up.

Here is the results with RL-17.

Both 43.6 and 43.8 had 1 round that shot hot as you can see in the high column. If I take that one out, the numbers drop to the below.

So I think I will choose 43.7 grs and that should keep me around the 2990fps range with a .6 MOA group. this is not where I thought this barrel would be as for accuracy but I guess it will do for right now.

Now try a couple adjustments either way in seating depth with that load and see if you get any better results.

have you tried any RL-26? if not might want to try a 1lb its running fast and accurate in a couple of 6.5CMs and a couple of 6XCs for guys here.

Lash, I am pretty close to max length for my mag (2.93"). I will run some tests on it to see if it does improve.

47guy, I have not tried it. I will give it a go and see what I can do with it.

BearNaked, When I do seating depth testing after finding a node, I move both up and down in overall length. If you're at or near max mag length, then just try a couple each seated .002"-.005" deeper or more. sometimes, just a little difference will tweak it into a tighter group.
