I am a little concerned about the weight, so I was wondering if a 16" barrel would reduce the weight enough to make a difference and if the .260 would still shine?

I just built one with an 18" barrel, on the theory that it will still shoot flatter than a .308 with the same length barrel. If your only reason for a shorter barrel is to save on weight, you might consider fluting or a slimmer barrel contour.
