260AI for a 2nd Time????

Re: 260AI for a 2nd Time????

It depends on how much work you want to put into fire forming cases and case prep. You will gain about 75 to 100 fps over a standard 260. If you go 6.5x284, then you pick up 150-200 fps over a 260. I'm running 140 VLD's out of my 28" at 2870 fps, which is pretty fast for a 260. I considered it, and quickly realized it's not worth it. Go to a large caliber if you want more speed.

I guess I don't mind the work involved in getting one up and running. I was just wondering if those who have given one a go once, would do a second.
Additionally, I am looking for a bit longer bbl life than the 6.5-284, is giving.

Re: 260AI for a 2nd Time????

I've been running one since February. It is a little extra work but, not bad. I'm running the 140 vld at 2870 like Chad's 260 but, with a 24 inch barrel. The velocity gain seems to increase with lighter bullits, I run 120 ballistic tips at 3050. Would I do it again...don't think so but, it's been a good learning experience. Round 2 will be a 6.5 creedmore, I love that 30 degree shoulder, it looks like the 6xc's big brother. shoot me a pm if you would like more details.
