.264 Winchester Magnum

Why don't more shooters use this round in competition? This may be a question for another category but I have begun looking into a 6.5mm and came across this more than once.

It seems it would be superior at long distances.

6.5SAUM is not far off - but it's getting pushed as easy on barrels: same round, different advertising, different popularity.

The .264 is a great cartridge, very deadly and accurate. But very poor choice for competition due to the reasons mentioned. But for hunting applications, it is an excellent choice.

Yep, awesome round for hunting, but the barrel suffers too much when the round is run to its potential for a match gun.

Thanks guys. I am building a new bolt action and have not settled on caliber yet. Just researching everything. Since I will be reloading the ability to find it on the shelf is not an issue.

No sir. But I am currently looking at having Southwest Precision build a 300 WM that I want to use for hunting and target. The argument I get into is wether or not I really "need" a magnum. Haha!

How many rounds did your 6.5SAUM last? What load did you use? Would you say that the members who are claiming good barrel life on their 6.5 SAUM's are not being truthful?
