Alright, so I have a Savage 270 with a sporter barrel, and that thing gets real hot, real quick. Anyway, I'm starting to formulate my plan to rebuild it as a "tactical" rifle. IE: bull barrel, tactical stock, and general accurizing. I'm wanting to stick to a 270 because it is my only centerfire rifle, and it is great for splattering vermin with varmint loads, while still having great performance on larger game like hogs and deer. Anyway, what I am wondering is how big of a difference does a bull barrel make for sustained fire with a round that puts off as much heat as a 270. Obviously, this would make the difference in the varmint hunting setting.
