I have an old remington 700 long action in 7mm rem mag the barrel is pretty rough I was thinking of rebarreling it to 270
but I haven't worked with the 270 win. much.
If any one as any info on the limitation of 270 win. I would appreciatate it.

Re: 270 v. 7mm mag

What is this rifle going to be used for? Plinking? Hunting?

I use a 7mmRM for just about all my hunting. You really can't go wrong with it.

Re: 270 v. 7mm mag

Sir,
I used a very old Pre 64 Win chambered to 7mm Magnums of various sorts ( Rem, Wea, Mashburn, and finnaly a 7mm on a full length 375 H&H case.) I pushed 150 grain NP's from 3100-3400 fps. Hunted in Asia, Africa, North and South America with it. At last rebarrel, ( the fifth) I put it away and went to a 270 Win. I shoot 130 BTS bullets at 3250 from a light 26" barrel. I have to date shot several elk and a few bears with it and can see little difference. I did think that with the 7mm and the faster chamberings, elk and grizzlies tended to go down in thier tracks a bit more often, but the .270 Win on the small ring Mauser action is about 1.5 lb lighter and the elk only have ran about 25 yards. I will conclude by saying you cannot go wrong with either, but today, I prefer the lighter weight rifle for mountain hunting.
