Is it possible to make 280 Remington cases by necking down a 30-06 case?

What would the process be and is it worth it?

The motivation is that it would be nice to shoot this 7mm round from a Lapua case, but Lapua only makes brass for the 30-06.

I don't understand your reasoning. All that to shoot Lapua brass? What are you expecting to gain?

I'm just wondering if it's possible and worthwhile. For instance, I have heard of people making 7mm-08 cases from either 308 or 260 Lapua cases. From what I read, 30-06 is the parent case to 280 remington. I'm not suggesting that I'm hell bent on making it happen, I just want to know if it's possible and practicable.

I suspect that it isn't worth the trouble because internet searches haven't yielded anything.

Just be careful. The .280 shoulder is farther forward than the .06 and the case is longer by a bit. Size the .06 until you get a bit of touch on closing the bolt and fire form the case. They did that so that you could not fire a .280 in a .270. The case will still be a bit short, so you may get some carbon build up in the gap. Clean it and you should be ok.

Why not? I used Lapua 30-06 to make my .338-06 cases. I wanted a great case to start with so that I could get the most life out of the .338-06.

Apples and oranges. Refer to former naval persons reply.
