I shot some today with pretty good (some weird) results.

RD Precision 30-06
25" Bartlien 1-10 twist barrel (M24 contour)

All rounds were loaded in Federal Brass with Fed210 primers

240smk @ 3.27 OAL
46 - Error, Error, 2396
47 - 2408,2414,2416
48 - 2535,2495,2518 (pulled the last one out of a nice group)
49 - 2568,2573,2572 (same thing on the last round must be getting excited about the possible group.... rookie)
50 - 2554,2593,2579 (started to see some VERY slight smearing on the brass
51 - 2648,2643,2648 (started to see some heavier marks with the first two rounds and blew the primer on the last round)

48 and 49 were the best groups and the flyers were identical in both groups. Both sets had the first two rounds touching with the 3rd pulled low left to about 7:30. Out of the two sets the 49 group of two was tighter... very slightly. I'll post some pics later.

220smk @ 3.335 OAL
49 - 2564,Error, Error
50 - 2600,2594,2585 (started seeing REALLY light marks)
51 - 2629,2628,2611 (the marks were a little more obvious so I stopped here)

What was weird was that a 51 grains I was slower with these then I was with the 240's, except I was blowing primers with the 240's. But, even at 49 grains the one reading I got was 2564 and with the 240's my three round average was 2571.

Can anyone explain this?

Re: 30-06, Heavy SMK's, RL17

Must be something in the relationship between rising pressure and inertia of the bullet. The 240 went faster because it generated more pressure due to more bullet inertia, then that extra pressure yielded more velocity once the 240 started picking up speed.
