Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and new to reloading and couldn't find anything so far that helped out, so here goes. What's you all's suggestions for bullet, powder, charge ect. for 30-06 used for manly hunting deer and other medium to big game within 500 yards? I also target shoot and wouldn't mind being able to get a reasonable group at 1k but I may be asking to much out of my Savage Edge. Thanks for your help!

So is this a factory gun? Or has the action been worked over and a heavier barrel? Will it rarely see the range and mostly hunting or will you be hitting the range regularly? I have shot the 190gr smk and the 195gr tmk out of my '06 and both do good to 1k... The 195gr tmk does better with fighting the wind. If your only hunting within 500 yards any game bullet will do well in the 160gr-180gr range. Any powders with the burn rates like 4350 through rl22 do well with heavier bullets.

Factory gun, the savage edge was renamed the axis but that was after I purchased it. It will be mostly used for hunting, but I like to practice with what I hunt with so it will see regular range trips but I'll be using hunting bullets. It currently has a Leupold VX-3 4-16 x 50 with weaver base and leupold 1" rings but may to a vortex 6-24x50 soon. Thanks for your all's help.

You will like the vortex a lot better. As stated above, Barnes makes great hunting bullets. The heavier bullets will be your friend for longer ranges.

I'm running 168 Berger Hunting VLD, Nosler brass, gold medal match 210 federal primers with 58.5 grains H4350 powder (Don't start there!!). I'm shooting 0.33 groups and hitting steel out to 1160 yards out of my light barrel 30-06 hunting rifle.
