Hi all, I have a Remington 700BDL Mountain rifle I was thinking on getting re-barreled to a 7mm mag. Is it as simple as just installing a new barrel and bolt? If not, what needs to be done to make this happen? I'm pretty sure since it's already a long action that the bolt would just need to be changed, but I'm no expert. I can't seem to find the exact answer anywhere.

Buy a bolt and a barrel, have a gunsmith chamber and install the barrel and true and headspace it all. Change out the mag box and bed the stock. Spend lots of $$$.
Or just go buy a 7 Mag at Dick's. You'd still have a damn nice 30-06 too.

I have both, just for fun. a mtn rifle is a light handy pkg. 06 is perfect, if you want to really go some distance a 7 will be better but only a bit. If you just change the bolt and barrel you will have a light package and you will have to brake it. It will be not great for Long range as it will need more barrel/wt. and it will not be as good for the light handy rifle you have now.

Or, get your barrel in 280ai and chase the ballistics of the 7 and the keep the handiness of the 06
