Re: 30-06 vs 300 wsm

Depends on the bullet you want to shoot, honestly. Run the ballistics on each caliber with the different bullets you want, and see which one you like the best. If you want the flatest round or the one with the least wind drift, it's up to you. The 300WSM is more new, but the 30-06 is much more simple and feeds easier. I'd lean 30-06 with a 190 SMK, 208 A-max, or 210 VLD.

Id go with a 30-06 with a 1-10 twist barrel 24" long at least and shoot 190smks,208 amax, and or 210 vlds.Youll get longer barrel life out of the 30-06.

Re: 30-06 vs 300 wsm

I would go with the 06 in all actions beside Winchester/FN and Kimber. Those two short actions have long magazines which allow you to seat the heavy bullets out further in the 300 wsm.

Re: 30-06 vs 300 wsm

Same ballistics, no? Lapua brass for ought six, Norma for WSM... longer bbl life for the ought six...

Re: 30-06 vs 300 wsm

It all comes down to if you want to run a long action, or short action. I would go WSM, Im not a fan of long actions, I like the shorter bolt trow.

That being said, I would look into 7WSM. The 7 will beat the crap out of both of those calibers.

Re: 30-06 vs 300 wsm

I shoot the 30-06 and am very happy with it. I made my decision based on the desire to also hunt with the rifle and 30-06 works well with all kinds of bullet weights. Probably couldn't go wrong with either one.
