Range Report 30" 1-11" Barrel in .308

Thinking about putting together another .308 and happen to have a Bartlein MTU made to finish at 30". Besides Palma guys, is anyone out there running a barrel that long...what kind of extra velocity will it provide? It's going into a Surgeon 591 action. Would like to get 3050fps with a 155 Lapua....doable?

its definitely gonna be a heavy bastard. I dont see you will see much improvement in velocity over a 26 inch tube though

1/11 will stabilize 185/190/200/210's all day long. Lots of better bullets than a 155 Lapua. MTU is a big barrel.

I have a 10 twist Lilja that is just over 26" and shoots hBN coated 155s 3015 with IMR-4895 in Winchester cases.
Varget would likely give you a bit more speed.
I agree, that will be a heavy tube.

I had CKAs F/TR 308 with a 28" Bartlein 1-12 and was pushin 175s at 2840 with Varget. CKA and Lesley have seen higher velocity with RE15. I say go for it!!!!

This gun is only the 2nd i have ever wish had not got sold. Thanks for letting me get it. With a bartlien 1 and 11 i cant help but with a 1/14 at 30 inches i could get 3100 easy at 30 inches

3050 is pretty common for F/Tr types shooting 155's out of 30" ish tubes. This is not to say we aren't running warm loads, but they (some more than others) are reasonable.

I'm currenty running a Broughton a bit heavier than the MTU. It's 1" at the muzzle 28" long 11 twist 5c. 155 Amax is going out at 2980, and i could push it a bit harder, but the accuracy was good.

I think the speed you are speaking of can be attained. I have a 30" Rock barrel in 7mm in the MTU contour. It is a heavy bastard, but very worth it. You could have them put heavy flutes in it and you would save over a pound. If you are thinking you will not like the length, have them leave 4"-6" short of the muzzle. That way if you want it shorter, have it cut off. No great loss either way. I really like heavy rifles.

I've gotten 2950 from a Broughton 24" 5C with the 155 Bergers and 47.8 of Varget. In fact, I think that load shoots the same speed in the AR10T with the 24" Wilson too. That load is a little hard on the brass in the gas gun though. Bolt gun it was just fine. CCI BR2s.

If you're going to build it to shoot the 155's, I would look at a slower twist rate, like a 1:14". This will help you get the extra velocity.

Schnider barrel 5Poly barrel 25" 11.25 Palma 95 chamber on AWAI 155 L 46.1 RL 15 Lapua case, Wolf LMG, runs 2940 fps single digit SD & ES ( below ability of chronograph margin of error but constant).
