Had some family over for a get together recently. Got into talking about game animals and hunting with my brother in law.
So my newly mounted scope on my tikka came up. Shared my plans of working up to 1k yard shots with it.

He's very positive no 30-06 load is worth anything past 200 yards.
Was skeptical about the group size i get at 400 with the stock rem700 i was using.

Oh well. I know the math says all the loads i plan will keep it supersonic past 1k yards. And i know the rifle is better than me.

He does have a 30-06 of his own ( never seen it ) and he gets deer or elk every year.

Wasn't worth trying to spend the time correcting him, but was funny.

Anyone else have some amusing claims of "that cant work" ?

Have been out shooting with him before. Was fun, but shorter range pistol and shotgun stuff.

We're both fairly busy, dont see each other often. Hell, i haven't had a chance to go out shooting in a year

In 2001 I wanted to build a 6 Dasher rifle with a fast twist for 600 and 1,000 yard BR matches. At the time that was all the type shooting that gave me access to that distance at a range. The first gunsmith I discussed the project with (a very highly regarded one indeed) told me it would never work because the round was based on a 6BR and just wouldn't shoot 1,000 yards. Well it did!

If a pussy ass 308 can make it to 1k then a 3006 is certainly capable of it.
