I had the impression that it is suppose to Ramp up to get greater elevation on the scope.
It's backwards from what you're thinking...
- Mechanically versus a 0MOA flat base, your 30MOA canted base 'ramps down' the scope, so you have to crank your reticle 30MOA back up to get the same zero
- When you are shooting further, you are tilting your rifle upward to give it more lob.
- If you can visualize a rifle/scope, that means the reticle has to mechanically crank downward, resulting in you tilting your rifle upward so the reticle is back on target
- So by having to 'ramp down' your scope by 30MOA, you gain the ability to crank your reticle an extra 30MOA down, which will make you tilt your rifle 30MOA further upward for a longer shot centered in the crosshair
If you're having trouble visualizing, put your hands together and point straight. Pretend your left hand is your bore, and right hand is your scope. Tilt your right hand (reticle) down a bit. Now adjust both hands together to your right hand (reticle) is pointing straight forward again. Your left hand (rifle bore) is now pointing at an upward angle.
