Just picked up my latest project today. It's a .300 AAC Blackout built on a Remington 700 action that started life at a .17 Rem Fireball. It wears a 16" Shilen Match Grade 1/8" twist barrel that has a heavy varmint contour. I had the barrelled action trued/accurized and bedded in a HS Precision LTR stock with the barrel channel opened slightly to accomodate the new Shilen. I had my gunsmith install one of his own tactical bolt handles.
Up top, I mounted a Falcon Menace 1.5x5 30mm scope in a set of medium IOR steel rings to a EGW 20 MOA base. If the rings look WAY too high, then you'd be absolutely right. I just used these rings in a pinch to see how everything would look. A set of low rings would be a better choice and I plan to order them soon.
My intention is to shoot primarily subsonic ammuniton using .30 cal bullets ranging from 200-240 grains. I ordered a .30 cal (4) cavity mould that will make 247 gr. cast lead bullets in .311" diameter as cast. I hope the rifle likes the accuracy potential of these bullets.Where the intention is to shoot subsonic I plan on using simple wheel weights while casting.
Once I get everything the way I like it I'll break out the paint and give in a new look. Here's a few pics of what it looks like now.
