Anybody tried any 300 gr bullets from a 338-06? I know that the oomph is way less than any of the .338 magnums but was just curious. I have gotten really good accuracy out of mine with 225 and 250 gr bullets but the 300gr Bergers got me thinking about trying them. Just thinking. Thanks

Lee,
I have used them out of a .338WM and was not impressed so I don't think that they would be a good idea out of a .338-06

Out of the .338WM I got 2435 fps with OK accuracy but they did not kill as well as the 250 grain Hornady BTHP match bullet ay 2650 fps which was stunning. I would give this bullet a go as its long range ability is impressive.

Thanks, I'll give them a try. I figured that I would not be able to do much with the 300's in a 338-06 but thought I'd ask. I only get around 2400 from the 250's so I probably couldn't push a 300 much past 2150 or so. Thanks.

What is your goal of trying the 300 grain bullet in this cartridge? I am using them in a Lapua magnum and can't hardly get any speed. At 2700 fps I have the trajectory of a garden hose. I'm on a 30 minute rail and have a scope with 94 MOA of adjustment and believe me I am giving that elevation dial a workout. In a 338-06 you will be spinning turrets constantly. On game with this slow of velocity I would not expect them to ever expand.

I love the bullet though and if I was you trying them would be right at the top of my bucket list.

I believe Berger mentioned they will be doing a 250 grain 338 bullet next. I have high hopes for that one. They think they hit a home run with the 300 grain version. My rifle is down for a couple weeks so I have to wait to try them myself.
