Does anyone have experience with 300 Norma Magnum reloading.

I am getting Cratered Primers. The Rifle Manufacturer says minor Cratering of Primers is normal for this caliber. Any Info will be greatly appreciated. No hard lift of the bolt. No other pressure signs.

Here is the Load:

1) 300 Norma and Lapua Brass
2) CCI Magnum Rifle Primers
3) 225 Hornady ELD Bullets
4) 84-84.5 Grains of Retumbo
5) COAL is 3.612; approximately 25/1000 off the lands

The Velocity at 2925-2950 FPS.

The primers without Bullet / Powder.

Is your rifle an AI? I'm running basically the same load as you and had the same problem with my AXMC. After bushing and converting to the small dia. firing pin the issue was solved.

My Rifle is the AXMC 300 Norma Magnum also. Talked to AI yesterday. They say it is normal. Not sure yet. Have you done anything about it ? I am going to try the H1000 and lower loads today. I will keep you posted.

Resurrecting this thread…

Looking for some info regarding loading 225 eldm into the 300NM

I’m loading N570 into the 230, 245, 250gr bullets since it’s a tad slower. N570 looks very promising.

I am keen to know what users are loading for the 225 eldm? I’m thinking about H1000 since it’s a bit faster - any advice on this?

N570 is about the perfect powder for .300NM. I've loaded 215 & 220 Bergers, 250 A-Tips and 212 Seneca solids in mine using a variety of powders and always come back to N570. It generates a lot of heat and can be a bit dirty, but it's just the right burn rate I've found. H1000 is a close second, but until recently it was harder to find than N570.

Just picked up my new MPA 300-NM. I have a bunch of MagPro and a lot of Retumbo, so I'm going to use those to build ladders and test loads for my 225-ELDM's in Lapua cases. Based on what I'm seeing in QuickLoad, I'll start a MagPro ladder at 80-ish and a Retumbo ladder at 85-ish. Looking to get as close to 3000 ft/sec as I can without any pressure signs. Wish I had some H1000 but it's "unobtainium" right now.

I’ve spoken to a few guys getting +-3000fps from Retumbo in a 250gr atip!!! (30” tube) - this is awesome in my mind…

Fortunately I can still get H1000, but since we are a secondary market to the USA, what you’re telling me right now is that I should stock up a bit - thanks for the heads up!

I’m going to be working out nodes for Mv and depth in the next couple months, for 225 eldm, 230 atip , and a little on the 250atip (elr bullet) with H1000 and N570

I’ve also heard about guys using something like BMG50 for the 250’s - Gordon’s giving some good data on that actually…

Will report back in a couple months

Ps, have a 1:9 barrel, 30”, Lapua brass, CCI primers

Please let us know how your ladders go, would be super interested!!

would you be willing to share you load data for 250 a-tips and 220 Berger? TIA

Berger 220 LHRT
92.6gr N570
Lapua Brass
GM215M
3.585" COAL

Hornady 250 A-Tip
85gr N570
Lapua Brass
GM215M
3.760" COAL
Thanks for sharing your info!! I’ve had some good success with N570 on the 225 eldm , and now looking to build a load for the 250 atips.

Can I ask, what is the jump/jam you are using on the 250 atip load you shared here? This Info would help me greatly! Tia

Ps, what’s your barrel length? 30”?

Was that the first firing on the brass? Drop you charge down a little and build back up to the original now that your cases are fire formed.
