I’m looking at doing a 300 Norma build and I can’t seem to find much for info for the components that I have available.
So I can get US 869 in an 8lbs jug and I can also get 250gr Atips, I’m assuming that not very many people use this powder is why I can’t find much info. Basically due to what I can get here (Canada) I’m going to get the barrel built around that. 29-30” tube with 8 twist.
My question is would this combo work good or should I hold on to see what happens in powder availability. I checked your sites for powder and seeing that you guys have almost nothing, it’s going to be awhile for us.
Another thing is how light of a bullet could I shoot with 8 twist, 212gr eldx?

I seriously doubt you'll get enough 869 stuffed in there to get even factory ammunition speeds

As for other bullets and the 1-8 just calculate the spin RPM
As long as it a well constructed cup/core bullet anything under 300k should be ok.

I have been able to get magnum powders here but you have to be diligent and quick.

I have used US869 in 300 Norma. Rifle is an AI AXSR, 27 inch barrel. 230gr SMK, CBTO: 2.816 (40 thou off the lands, I think), Norma Brass, Fed 215 primers, 6 shot ladder: (it's all the components I had at that time)

95gr: 2817 FPS
96gr: 2852 FPS
97gr: 2911 FPS
98gr: 2953 FPS (primer started flattening)
99gr: 2968 FPS
100gr: 3011 FPS

I stopped at 100gr since my aim was to get to 3000 FPS. Power gets real compressed around 104gr. Temperature was around 80F that day.

Factory Norma Match 230gr ammo in a new barrel, 5 shot average,
Average velocity: 2901 FPS,
SD: 32 FPS
ES: 88 FPS
