I am in the process of having a 300 RUM built and am trying to figure out what kind of glass I want to put on top of it. I thought you guys might be able to lend a hand. It is going to be used primarily for hunting and probably at moderate range (200-500yds). I'm hoping to keep it under about $2k and would like to find something with a BDC or B&C type reticle. What do you guys think?

Re: 300 RUM Scope

Stay away from BDC scopes. Avoid them like the plague! What type rifle setup do you have? Rifle specs to help match the glass to the rifle. More than likely it will be something like a Leupy Vari X on a 4-16 range

Re: 300 RUM Scope

if you are at a $2k limit, look at a used USO here on the hide. That "Nightforce NXS Hands Down" B.S. is nonsence. Nightforce is nice in the $1500 range, but if you dont mind 2nd hand, you can get a hell of a nice scope.

Re: 300 RUM Scope

For under 2k, NXS would be the way to go, but for maybe a little more you could pickup a nice used USO 3-17 ergo or premier 3-15 here on the hide

Re: 300 RUM Scope

I wouldn't get a BDC reticle unless you get one tailored for your load. With 150 gr bullets, you'll be well over 3000 fps. Are there any non-custom BDC reticles that will match that weight and velocity? If I were you I'd get a mildot or another reticle with usable subtensions for holdovers that you can use after you calculate or get some actual DOPE for that load.

Sounds like it's going to be one awesome gun BTW. Leupold, Sightron, and Nightforce are all good options--I have varied complaints about each one, but overall I am satisfied with each brand. Just make sure that your low end magnification is at the most 3-4x, but preferably more like 2x.
