I got another 300 WM and wanted to try some 185 VLD because that is what I shoot in my 308. I have some loads for 180 Nosler AB and for 168 VLD but nothing for 185 VLD. I have done some reading and I loaded up a few to test out. I went 78, 78.7, 79.4, 80.1 and 81 grains of H1000. I set them .040 off the lands but I can go closer if I need to. Does anyone have a pet load with a different powder? I’m thinking this load will be around 3000 FPS. I used WW brass and FGMM magnum primers and even at 81 it wasn’t compressed.

It's always a bit helpful to know a little info on the gun. Having said that I'm an unabashed RL22 fanboy. For my location it just works for me and those I load for. Regarding the 185 VLD's, ya, we've across the board wrote them off. We as a whole like to either zip 168's outta a 300WM or 210's for more thump like a WM should have. IMHO if you think about it the 185's make no sense, unless of course you have a unicorn that won't shoot the 168's or 210's. *Honey, where's my flame suit* 
I've loaded for Remmy's, Winny's, Savage's, Thompson's, SAKO/Tikka's, you name it, and a fair bit of people with WM's. They all have pulled the plug on the 185's for the right reasons for THEIR guns. I'd throw CBTO's and grains at ya but not knowing if you're going for magazine fed lengths to jam, meh, it's a futile endeavor at this juncture.
In the meantime, have you checked the reloading Depot? It's got a wealth of info.

It’s a Remington 700 Alaskan with a 26 inch barrel. It is magazine fed and I am currently loading to 3.540 which is .040 off the lands. All my other loads are with RL22. I had a couple people recommend the H1000 so I thought I would try it. My current load with 180 AB is 75.5 grains of RL22. Shoots about 3100 and right at MOA.
