Re: 300. winmag build

2000 including a scope?

Here is where I am at now. I got a little out of control on the options. Also made a stop at GA Precision to get brake and knob done. I am still getting it duracoated and adding a scope.
Rem 700P 300 win mag 900
A3 McMillan 600
BO FTE installed 210
BO Bolt Knob 95
BO M5 350
BO Base and Rings 300

Re: 300. winmag build

If your 2k includes optics, Get a 700P, XCR LR Tactical, 5R, or Sendero. Have MB installed, decent trigger, and you still have enough cash for a leup XV3 with the B&C that works fine for hunting

Re: 300. winmag build

$2000 including a scope is tough to do,check the WTS forum on here as some pretty nice packages come up,other than that,by doing it yourself,it can be upgraded a little at a time,and you can still practice at the same time,my numbers are;

Rem 700PSS 300WM $850 New,from Hoplite in KY,inc shipping
Used NXS 5.5-22x50 $1300
McM A5 Desert Camo $757 New,JW Precision,SH Member
After Market FP and
spring,trigger wk $100 Local Gunsmith
Harris BRMS Bipod $100
20 MOA base and MK4
Rings. $250 This is appx
Bolt Knob(custom) $75 AZ Precision

Todays Total $3432 I sold the HS stock,Leupy scope,
original trigger for$1050

These are pretty realistic numbers,I shop pretty hard before I spend my money.Still on the to do list are a custom Benchmark Barrel 1:11 twist,$500 inc fitting and check action,Monopod and mount,Cerakote all metal Coyote Brown, scope level, angle indicator.......

As you can see, unless you have a lot to spend up front,it's easier to do it a little at a time,at least on your wallet, also by taking your time, you can find out what you really want.

Sorry, did not catch the Hunting part,I was thinking a Semi-Custom Precision Rifle,my out of the box PSS with a Leupy and trigger and bolt work did just fine,I just wanted better

Agree! If your budget is 2k, then out of the box XCR LRT will be good to go. You can change the trigger if your heart desires. May want to add a brake to tame that beast. The B&C stock is fine, but you can upgrade it to something else and still be under 2K.

Re: 300. winmag build

Hard to beat Mcree precision stocks for the money and all of the options. DBM included so no bottom metal to purchase seperately

Re: 300. winmag build

XCR LR tactical $1000-$1200 was one for sale for about $950 not to long ago.
I have the 308 version and the trigger is GTG so no need for a new trigger. Also as stated above the B&C stock isnt too shabby so no need for an upgrade there

Mounts/Rings $50-$300 depends on options, Gonna keep it strictly to hunt with, get Leup Standards with rings, can be had for about $60 and purchased local just about anywhere.

Optics. CDNN still has a bunch of VXIII LEups 4-14x40 with B&C Ret's, I think they were just below $500 I have a few of these, great hunting optics.

Bipod- I have never used one while hunting since here in TX we hunt in stands and I usually use the window for support

Good sling though -$50

Muzzle Break, Depends, I think its about $200 and they supply the break.

Spend the rest on ammo or reloading stuff for it. Shoot it a bunch, nothing worse than sommeone rolling up to a hunt with a rifle that they havent fired much. Usually ends up with a bad shot being made.

Re: 300. winmag build

Thanks for the responces thus far guys.
his budget of $2000 will be all for the
rifle its self. i figured a moded sendero
would be a rout i just didnt personaly know
what to expect out of one of the factory barrels
they come with.
