Hello all,

My first post here :)

I have a 40X KS (Single shot) Chambered in 300 Win Mag amd would like to move to 6mm or 6.5.

Is it possible to convert my 40X from Win Mag to 6mm? I'm pretty sure it has a short action (I think all 40X single shots do...correct me if I'm wrong though).

If it is possible, I'm assuming I'd need a new barrel (obviously) and a new bolt since the face is a different size. Is that it?

I already own this rifle and woud rather build on it vs buying an entire new system. I'd like a gun my son and I can shoot, maybe do some F Class and I think the 300 might be a litte much for him....not to mention the idea of practicing all day with a 300 Win Mag doesn't sound that enticing. LOL

6 or 6.5 SAUM or PRC would be my suggestions unless you're willing to change out the bolt, as well.

I'm not averse to switching the bolt if need be. This rifle would be for F Class since its a single-shot. Not sure how well a SS would do in PRS while running stations. LOL

I hadn't thought of the 6.5 PRC. Perhaps that's a better option that getting a new bolt and barrel and going 6 or 6.5 CM?

Personally, I'd go with SAUM over PRC unless you don't reload. The SAUM has better brass selection and gets about 50-75fps more velocity with the same projectile. With the long action and no mag to worry about, assuming you reload, you could load the SAUM much longer than normal and get some serious velocity out of it. I know someone with an XM action (between SA and LA) running 153gr Hornady ATips at close to 3200FPS.
