300 wsm barrel length?

My WSM has a 26" tube, and keeps 178gr. AMAX's supersonic to just about 1500 yards@ DA of about 6-8000 ft. It really depends on which bullet you want to run and what powder you have behind that bullet. If going with a short barrel, like say a 20", you might look into 155gr Scenars, with a Varget load. IMHO, going with anything under 20 to 22" is going to be a no-go because of excessive muzzle blast.
In my opinion, the shortest you would want is about 25 inches, with 27 being more optimal.
But part of my opinion is that 300WSM is way to much is you only want to shoot 1000 yards.
28" minimum IMHO. if you want to shoot 1000 and maximize your performance I would stay over 28" go with 190 or heavier bullets and go to town. I have a LOT of experience with the 300WSM and shooting 1000 yard competition and ground hogs.
