Just got my FN SPR in 300 WSM back from GAP has 24” barrel. Loaded 208 Amax with 60.0 grains of H4350 average velocity 2689 ES 23 shoots great at 200 yards. Got this load off 6mm BR says many matches won at Williamsport with it. There is another thread on here where they are getting close to same velocity in 308 with RL17. Makes me feel I am doing something wrong should I try different loads (more velocity) the load above shoots great had 4 rounds under ½” at 200 yesterday my flier opened group up to ¾” (3/8” MOA). My thought is load above is not hot will be easy on brass/barrel, shoulder and shoots good only 30” of come up to get to 1000. The 30” barrels at Williamsport are getting 2850 fps. My heart says shoot what works and not worry about trying to get more velocity. Would appreciate your input.

You're 60.0 grain charge is under max, so you will not get the top velocity. Plus, if GAP installed a new Bartlein barrel, the first 200-300 rounds will be a little slower. It took about that many rounds for my 260 Rem barrel to get to full velocity. You do have more room to increase in powder change and in velocity, so go up if you want more. But it's shooting pretty good now.

I have to agree with Chad on the break-in /speed increase. If it is that accurate, why bother with anything else? Give it a couple hundred rounds and you'll probably see another hundred fps. A plus side to being under max is the increased lifespan of everything.

I also have pretty much the same set up except a Rock barrel.

I shoot 7828 SCC with great success for a little more speed but so what? Dial and smile and be happy with accuracy.

Your just about where you should be velocity wise with that powder charge weight.

Do a round robin test to find you optimal charge weight.

Just cause they won with it at williamsport doesn't translate in to you have it work for you with the same speeds. They're running 30" tubes you have a 24"
