can a rem 700 long action in 30-06 be used to make a 300wm if i rebarrel i believe i would have to open up the bolt face but not sure of the exact details if some one can give me good deails on how to do it that would be great thanks
It will work, as you stated the bolt face needs to be opened up, new extractor installed, and a new chamber cut or rebarrel. Not too complicated for a qualified smith.

the feed rails on a 30-06 remington action are the same as the feed rails on a 300 win mag. its only the 6.8 spc the .223 and the ulra mags that are different. it will just need a barrel and a bolt an it will be gtg
thanks for allthe imput all any body have specs or input on the extractor swap never did that I have a lathe and have chambered and crowned a few barrels but never did an extractor job ?
I am about to do the same thing and I got a M16 style extractor but have decided to just get a new PTG bolt. It is worth getting a new one that is all done and is one piece than put all the time into the factory one. You can sell the fatory one and it will take care of most the cost of a new one.
You will need a good mill to do the extractor job. It's not that hard but I like the idea of a new one piece bolt.

The rails are the same, but I've found issues at the feed ramp that directs the case into the chamber. They don't always feed smoothly and it takes a little contour work on there to smooth things out.
