Do any of you guys run the 175smk? What kind of luck did you have with them and what was your load? Doing some reloading for my brother-in-law who is in the army and doesn't have time to reload.

Just curious why you want to use 175's in a .300WM? Not saying you couldn't do it but why not try some 208 Amax's or 210 Bergers or something with a better BC? Do you just have a shit ton of them to use?

If SHTF yes, but i don't think you can push them fast enough to even compete with a 190gr at the longer distances.

This data is posted from Hodgdon's Data Center. It appears that, when you compare 175 SMK loads to 190 SMK loads, you gain less than 100 FPS but give up a bit on BC. You will also burn even more powder with the 175 and I'm not sure the extra expense would be worth the results.
IMHO, you should stick to 190 or larger bullets in the 300 WM.

It's run over from my 308. But thought they mite scream out of a 300wm. Would've prefurred 208's

Thanks shoot4fun for the info. I now 175's are not the optimum but that's what he's getting. These most not be nearly as popular as they are in a 308.

The 175 is a great choice for 308. As stated by other posters here, the 300 WM begs for the heavies.
Then again, brothers can't always be choosers.
Load him up what you have and I'm sure he will appreciate them.

I think that Rocky Mountain Reloading had some 220gn SMK's on sale for a reasonable price. Might be worth looking into some heavies for your BIL.
