I am wondering how 'loud' a shot will be using a suppressed bolt gun with sub sonic ammo

wondering if neighbors 100-200 yds away will recognize it as a rifle shot??

youtube videos are interesting but i cannot tell how accurate the sound is from one to another, some seem loud some seem too quiet

advice before I try a test shot?

thanks very much

My 300blk with a can sounds like a muffled shot. And you’ll get the first round pop. From a few hundred yards it might sound like a car door slamming. After a while, the neighbors will wonder where their cats have all gone though. 😬

my 22suppressed with subs is very good, am using it now for coyotes, normal unsuppressed high velocity was very loud

I shot into 3 pieces of plywood clamped together using 2 subsonic rounds and one 1450 fps round i had been using

the subs went through the 1st 2 broads and dented into board #3

the high velocity round went into but not through board #3, poked out the back side a bit

not much extra penetration so I can using the subs from now on

I would like to try my 6.5 creedmoor into a cedar tree to see how loud it is, just do not want to anger the wife or neighbors

a loud door slam without the ss boom may be ok

thanks

Some 300blk rounds are very quiet with a good can.

Bolt gun less than 50 yards, droping brass on concrete louder.

I will try to upload my video again but a formatting problem I think.

My 6.5 is very manageable suppressed. I don’t think most people would know what it was if I fired it in my neighborhood, although I don’t. I run an AAC SDN-6. It’s a 30 cal can, but still quietens (not sure that’s a word) it up very nicely.

Well I agree @chevy_man .
I already have a bolt gun and an sbr in 300blk.

But a 20inch upper with a big scope, a heavy for 6.5g bullet and some cfeblk with a can could be a lot of fun if it will stabilize in the 1/8 twist at about 1050fps.

Might be the only kid on the block with it.

A few wtf's at the range would be worth it.

Bolt gun 308 win or 300 BLK will be stupid quiet with subs... There is no way your neighbor would hear either going off with any decent can on the end.... First round pop will be dependent on the can used

Can anyone convert a mp4 vidio to a gif to upload here?
I have a good video on the sound.

Nothing I have will convert it.

You can hear the firing pin drop, a little puff of air, the bullet hitting the target and then the berm. My son 6 feet away then talks.

It's very enlightening.

I ran 308 subsonic's through my 24" barrel with a SilencerCo Omega. It was so quiet I could hear the trigger break. Sounded like a pump pellet gun.

I used 180 grain round nose with Trailboss powder in Lapua brass. It was pretty damn accurate too at 100 yards (about 3/4 of an inch)

How much trail boss and what primers?

I was in the 9.7 grain range and CCI200’s but don’t copy mine. Reloading subsonic with a powder like Trailboss can be even more dangerous. You need to do the reverse in charge testing, then you would with a typical rifle cartridge. Start at say 12 grains and go down every 3/10’s until you are subsonic. Barrel length and twist will come into play, as will bullet weight. 180 hornady worked for me in a 24” 1:12 twist barrel.

You wanna be under say 1050fps. I found accuracy around 980-1000fps. Start load development with a chrono and work down. Do this without your suppressor on. If the round is not stabilized you could have a baffle strike. Look for nice round holes when you find your velocity/accuracy charge, then put on your can.

Supers. I’ve never ran subs through my 6.5. Even with supers I don’t think the untrained ear could tell what it was. It has a slight crack to it. But it’s honestly not bad. If you had a neighbor 100-200yds away I doubt they’d raise a brow. I guess that’s depending on where you live also
You must be shooting in the wide open. I've never heard a supersonic rifle suppressor that was so quiet that someone wouldn't know what it was.

Much appreciated. I’ve been thinking about attempting this with my 308 (1-10 twist, 28 inch barrel). More for fun than anything else, but a fox has been harassing my friends cats...

Here it is 16" and before Magpul stock and scope:

I loaded some 180 grain bullets with trailboss and shot it suppressed through my Omega out of a 26" barrel. It is quieter than a pump air rifle. I was shooting it off my back porch with the doors open and my wife in the living room about 30 feet away didn’t know I was shooting. I can’t speak for 6.5, but suppressed 308 subsonic with my set up is STUPID quiet.

6.5x47 with Speer hotcor 140 spfb works like a champ. Trailboss is the only thing I've tried powder wise in the 6.5x47/6.5 Creed setups. Avg fps is pretty consistent around 1070. Wayyyyyyyy too much fun. Stupid quiet to boot.
All run through a Rugged Surge.
