I am thinking of working up a load with the Lapua D46 and RL17 in my factory 26" TRG. I know Lapua recomends a 10 twist but what the hell. Im going to shoot for 2700 FPS. I think the RL17 will be slow enough to maximize the length of my barrel and should also keep the pressure down and the 11 twist should help with that also. Does anyone have any experiance with this combo or the D46 in a .308? Recomendations will be appreciated.

R17 would be good for a 185 grain. I've been playing with Alliant's Power Pro 2000MR. The burn rate is between R15 and R17, and was designed specifically for max velocity for 175 grain and heavier weight bullets in a 308. It is a ball/spherical powder, so you will be able to get more powder in the case, which is an issue with a 308. It is a temp stable powder, which is great for temp swings. I would also look at this powder.

Will do, Ill read about it ASAP. I just like how the RL17 is claimed to have a flat presure curve and offer hight velocity w/ lower chamber presure. I think the flat curve should help get the most out of a 26" in the .308.

One thing to consider Jesse- we have about a 100 degree swing in temp over the course of the year in Maine. RL-17 isn't known to be particularly temp stable, so your velocity will drop with the temp.

If it were me I'd just make a varget load and go shoot. Varget has been very consistent and temp stable for me and I've never had a problem getting an accurate load. You have a 26" barrel you shouldn't have a problem getting adequate velocities. Starting from scratch I'd give 2000MR a try, I know it gave me a large increase in velocity over varget (70fps give or take). Not sure how stable it is though.
