Anybody know the best size flash hole for the 308 case .Whenever you debur the flash hole it always gets enlarged a little is there a Dia. to shoot for or some type of standard ?I use a RCBS tool that is tapered so it can be set to different depths .Also will the sinclair primer pocket uniformer remove the crimp on LC brass or should I swage then uniform. I see that the sinclair uniformer has a arbor in the center is it the size that the flashole should be?
Thanks Scot

Re: 308 Flash Hole Size

When you deburr the flash hole you only want to remove the burr only. If you are making the flash hole bigger you are asking for trouble. The only material you need to remove is just what's left over after the flash hole has been punched. To my knowledge Lapua and maybe Norma drill their flash holes. All others are punched. If you swage the primer pockets you really don't need to us a primer pocket uniformer tool unless you are shooting benchrest or over 600 yards.

Do not play around increasing the flash hole size. It's small so you don't end up eating a rifle bolt when the primer fires. 60,000 psi is a lot to have that close to your head.

Some custom match brass has undersized flash holes. But you'll know it if you buy that. It isn't something that 99.999% of shooters want or need to mess with.

Good luck.
