I'm thinking in the terms of the .284, most people run a long action to keep from using up powder space. Maybe a few more fps could be gained, especially with heavier bullets. I've already got the action and the stock so I figured what the heck.

A good friend built an XTC (across-the-course) HP rifle on a long action Remington, initially in .30-06. He very quickly decided that he would rather have .308, so he had the barrel set back and rechambered. And then the problems began. What used to be an utterly reliable .30-06 became a bolt action jam-o-matic .308. He never had a problem during slow fire segments, only rapid fire.
I suppose you could get around that at least partially by using a shortened follower with a block in the back of the mag. You could tailor the block to whatever length you need. It might work, then again maybe not. Something to consider, anyway.

I believe a kwik klip will feed them with no problems. The mags for them are around 3.200 and I'm talking about increasing the overall length of the round anyway so there won't be that much room left in the mags. I'm not really worried about rapid fire. I was thinking about building something that I could compete in the F/TR class if I wanted to and just something to experiment with.
